Celebrating Local Food
The Santiam Food Alliance aims to spread the joy of growing, buying, cooking, and eating local foods throughout the area surrounding Lebanon, Sweet Home, and Scio, Oregon—that is, throughout the basin of the Santiam River and its two tributaries, the South Santiam River and the North. We’ve named our organization in honor of the rivers and the Santiam Kalapuya people, who lived in this area for thousands of years.
Since sprouting from the roots of Ten Rivers Food Web and FEAST (Food Education Agriculture Solutions Together) gatherings of 2010 and 2011, the Santiam Food Alliance has held Food Day fairs, seed swaps, food-preservation fairs, gardening workshops, author talks, a Terra Madre slide show, an edible-front-yard tour, and a water-conservation fair. We have also provided tastings and cooking demonstrations at the Lebanon and Sweet Home farmers’ markets.
